Your Screen Emulator is a Chrome extension that displays the page you are currently viewing at several screen sizes at the same time, with scrolling and navigation synchronised between them. This policy explains exactly what the extension does with your data.
The short version: it does not collect, transmit, or sell any data. There is no server, no account system, and no analytics of any kind. Everything the extension does happens on your own computer.
What the Extension Stores
- Your interface settings and chosen language
- Custom viewport sizes you have added
- Devices you have marked as favourites
- Saved workspace layouts, including the address of the page a workspace was saved for, so it can be reopened later
All of this is written to Chrome's local extension storage on your own machine. None of it is transmitted anywhere, and removing the extension erases it.
To show you the page you are currently on, the extension reads that tab's address. This happens entirely on your computer, only while the simulator is running, and the address is never transmitted, logged, or retained.
What the Extension Does Not Do
- It does not use analytics, telemetry, tracking pixels, or advertising
- It does not collect, copy, or transmit the content of the pages you view
- It does not build a record of your browsing history
- It does not require an account, a login, or any payment
- It does not contain remotely hosted code and makes no outbound network requests
Screenshots, full-page captures, device mockups, and recordings are produced on your machine and saved straight to your own downloads folder. They are never uploaded anywhere.
Permissions and Why They Are Needed
Keeps your settings, custom device sizes, favourites, and saved workspaces on your device between sessions. Without it, every preference would be lost on each page load.
Lets the simulator start in a tab that was already open before the extension was installed or updated. Chrome does not run extension scripts in pre-existing tabs, so without this the toolbar button would do nothing until you reloaded the page.
Used to remove two response headers so pages can be shown side by side. See the section below for exactly what this does and how to turn it off.
Broad site access is required because the extension previews whichever page you are already looking at, and it cannot know in advance which site that will be. The access is used to render that page inside frames, keep their scroll positions in sync, and take a screenshot when you ask for one — nothing else.
Modifying Response Headers
Many sites send an X-Frame-Options or Content-Security-Policy: frame-ancestors header that prevents them from being displayed inside a frame. So that pages can be previewed side by side, those two response headers are removed.
This is deliberately narrow. The rule applies only in the tab where you switch the simulator on, only while it is on, and it is withdrawn the moment you close the simulator or the tab. No request is redirected, blocked, or inspected, and no other header is touched.
You can disable this behaviour entirely in the extension's settings, under Compatibility. With it disabled, the simulator still works on sites that do not send those headers, including anything you are running on localhost.
Data Sharing
There is nothing to share. The extension does not sell or transfer user data to third parties, does not use data for any purpose unrelated to previewing pages at different screen sizes, and does not use data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes. It contacts no third-party service at runtime — fonts and icons are bundled inside the extension package rather than fetched from a network.
Your Control
Erase: Removing the extension deletes everything it has stored
Export: Your settings and custom devices can be exported to a JSON file at any time
Restrict: Site access can be limited from Chrome's extension settings, and header modification can be switched off inside the extension
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This policy may be updated as the extension changes. Any revision will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. If a future version ever begins handling data differently, that change will be described here before it takes effect.
